Jeonbuk and Daegu are set to meet in the 17th round of the Hana OneQ K League 2023 on July 7 at Jeonju World Cup Stadium. Daegu is in fifth place with 24 points, but only three points behind eighth-place Jeonbuk (21). This is a crucial match that can either tie the points or widen the gap and give them an edge in the mid-table battle.
Both teams are on a roll. Both teams have taken down top teams in the previous 16 rounds.
Jeonbuk had just defeated Ulsan Hyundai 2-0 in the Hyundai Derby. It was the 110th Hyundai Derby in history, and they avenged their opening loss of the season. Cho Kyu-sung opened the scoring, and Moon Sun-min also found the back of the net.
Ulsan had lost just one of their last 15 games before the Jeonbuk game and were on top of the standings, but Jeonbuk really knocked the ‘good’ Ulsan out of the park.
Notably, Jeonbuk was not at its best. The victory was all the more valuable because it came without key players like Baek Seung-ho, Meng Sung-woong, and Kim Moon-hwan. Coach Petrescu Cluj will look to keep the momentum going until the next Jeonbuk coach is officially named.
Daegu is no slouch either. After struggling at the start of the season, the team has been revitalized by the return of several injured players. The team is racking up points with the “best power” that the coach envisioned before the season.
Sejingya’s return has had a big impact 메이저놀이터. After being sidelined by injury, he has started the last three games in a row, and his counter-attack is a threat. Add to that Edgar’s offerings and Ko Jae-hyun, and the color of the ‘counter-attack’ has become more prominent recently.
Daegu defeated Seoul 1-0 in the previous round of 16. Sejingya’s early goal gave Daegu 24 points and their first top-five finish of the season. They are also unbeaten in their last five matches and have a balanced offense with six goals and three conceded.
In the first meeting between the two teams this season, Daegu won 2-0, with Kim Jin-hyuk and Jang Jang-won scoring back-to-back goals. Despite Jeonbuk’s 71 percent ball possession, Daegu had the last laugh as they converted two of their six shots on goal.
Before the game, Daegu head coach Choi Won-kwon said, “We gained confidence from the game against Seoul. Jeonbuk is also in a good mood and has good players, but we want to maximize our losses and produce results.”
It remains to be seen which team will rise to the occasion in a mid-table battle where points are tightly spaced.
