Lee Kang-in’s move to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) appears to be very close.
Transfer market pundit Fabrizio Romano wrote on social media on Thursday (July 14), “PSG have reached a verbal agreement to sign Lee Kang-in on a long-term contract. The player has already completed his medical. We are now finalizing the deal with Mallorca.”
Lee is a product of Valencia’s youth academy. He made his first-team debut at an early age and was highly touted. However, once he started playing professionally, he was not given as much playing time as he expected. Eventually, his contract expired in the summer of 2021 and he decided to look for a new challenge. Lee joined Mallorca as a free agent.
Lee made 30 appearances in Spanish La Liga last season, but only 15 starts. He played alongside Kubo Takefusa, who had joined on loan, and competed with him for places. After a year like that, Lee began to show a much different side this season.
He has been a regular starter since the beginning of the season. Javier Aguirre has used him in a number of positions, including as a top two partner for Bedat Murugi, on the flanks, and in the center of the field. Lee has played 36 La Liga games this season. His playing time has increased significantly. He started a whopping 33 games.
The results were impressive. Lee scored a league-leading six goals and six assists, reaching double-digit offensive points. Along with Mourinho, he was a key player for Mallorca, and his performances earned him a nomination for La Liga Team Midfielder of the Year. While he didn’t make the final cut, it was a competitive season.
Unsurprisingly, many teams were 메이저사이트 interested in him. The likes of Atletico Madrid, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United have been linked since January. Toward the end of the season, Atletico seemed to be the aggressor. Instead of paying a buyout, they opted to lower the cash and include the player as a bargaining chip.
However, the deal ultimately fell through. On December 12, Spanish publication Relevo reported that “Lee will not go to Atletico. The negotiations between Mallorca and Atletico broke down. He will now pursue a move outside of La Liga. His future will be decided this week, and a move to Atletico is 99.9% off the table.”
A day later, Relevo reported a new transfer rumor. It was a potential move to PSG. “Negotiations have progressed between Mallorca and PSG. The parties hope to finalize the deal soon. The foreign club that was mentioned yesterday is PSG.”
Eventually, news of the impending transfer broke. French publication L’Equipe, as well as journalist Romano, reported that the move to PSG was close and that he had even completed his medical. If the details are finalized without any major problems, an official announcement is expected soon.
