Olympic gold medalists Jung Jae-eun and Hwang Kyung-sun were honored as the best athletes in their respective competitions at the GALA Awards Golden Jubilee to celebrate the World Taekwondo Federation’s (WTF) 50th anniversary.
The WTF held the GALA Awards Golden Jubilee at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Sunday to celebrate its 50th anniversary and recognize national federations and athletes who have contributed to the globalization and development of taekwondo.
The event was attended by 토토사이트 WTF President Chung Won Choi, the Presidents and Executive Committees of the five continental federations, delegates from 212 member nations, international referees and outstanding athletes.
The WTF recognized 14 male and female athletes for their performances at the six Olympic Games and the inaugural Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, the last time taekwondo was an Olympic sport, from Sydney 2000 to Tokyo 2020.
Korean athletes Jung Jae-eun and Hwang Kyung-sun were honored.
Jung won the women’s 57-kilogram category at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Hwang, who was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2012 London Olympics, won gold in the women’s 67-kilogram category at the 2008 Beijing and London Games.
The WT also presented special commemorative plaques to 17 member nations, including Korea, Austria, Brunei, Cambodia, Taiwan, Colombia and Germany, who attended the founding congress on May 28, 1973.
