The ‘Doosan Bears Children’s Baseball Tournament’ was held again this year for the first time in four years due to COVID-19. The competition was divided into elementary (U13) and little divisions. 21 teams participated in the ’37th Seoul U13 Baseball Tournament’, an elementary school competition, at Guui Baseball Stadium from July 10th to July 17th. The ’36th Little Baseball Championship’, a Little League competition, was held at Jangchung Little Baseball Stadium and Hwaseong Dream Park from July 25th to July 29th, with 25 teams, including 2 teams from District 2, competing for the championship.
The winner of the elementary school division was Gwadong Elementary School, and the runner-up was Dogok Elementary School. The winner of the Little Division was the Yeongdeungpo-gu Little Baseball Team, and the runner-up was the Nowon-gu Little Baseball Team.
In addition to the awards ceremony, a victory prayer and first pitch event was also held. The first pitch was thrown by Lee Ha-jun (13 years old, catcher), MVP of the Elementary School Division, and Hyeonjae Kim (14 years old, pitcher/shortstop), MVP of the Little Division.
Lee Ha-jun said, “I’m really happy to be able to throw the first pitch for my favorite team, the Doosan Bears. My dream is to become a catcher representing Korea like Yang Eui-ji.” Hyeonjae Kim expressed his thoughts, saying, “Thank you for creating unforgettable memories for the rest of my life. I want to grow into a great pitcher like Kwak Bin.”
Meanwhile, the Doosan Bears have been focusing on the development of grassroots baseball, starting with hosting the first Children’s Baseball Tournament in 1986.
