The South Korean national soccer team, led by Jürgen Klinsmann, will play its first away game in Europe since its inception in September.
The Korea Football Association announced on Monday that the national team will play a friendly against Wales on Sept. 7. The venue is Cardiff City Stadium in Wales, and the time is TBD.
It will be the first time in five years and six months that the national team has played an away match against a local nation in Europe, having traveled to Northern Ireland and Poland in March 2018. The match against Wales is the first of the September A matches, with a second opponent yet to be determined.
It will be the first time South Korea and Wales have faced each other in an A-Match. South Korea is currently ranked 27th in the FIFA rankings, while Wales is one spot higher at 26th. Wales qualified for the World Cup in Qatar last year, their first appearance in 64 years, but failed to reach the round of 16.
The Welsh national team has been 메이저놀이터 led by former international stars Ryan Giggs and Gareth Bale. Today, they are led by Son’s Tottenham Hotspur teammate Ben Davies and Aaron Ramsey (Nice).
Noel Mooney, president of the Welsh Football Association, told The Sun: “It’s not easy to play a friendly against a strong opponent in September because many countries are in Euro qualifying. In that respect, it’s an advantage for us to play Korea, who have a number of quality players, including Davies’ teammate Son Heung-min.”
Wales will use the game against South Korea as a test ahead of their Euro2024 qualifier against Latvia in September. Mooney added: “South Korea did well at the World Cup, reaching the knockout stages. They play a different style of football to Wales, so it will be an important test. They will provide us with an interesting test.”
Meanwhile, Klinsmann’s men will continue their preparations in June with a pair of domestic trials. On June 16, they will play a friendly against Peru in Busan, before traveling to Daejeon to face El Salvador on June 20. It will be the first time in three years and six months that Busan will host an A match, while Daejeon will be the first time since last June’s match against Chile.
